Session #37 - Structured Independent Reading = Fun and Love
Structured Independent Reading differs from DEAR and SSR in that teachers provide structure to students' independent reading so that students grow as readers. Structure is helping students select books: considering level (easy, just-right, challenging), topics, and genres. Structure is conferring with students about how and what they read. Independent is allowing students choice and voice as they select texts.

Peace areas are a designated place or resource in your classroom to empower students to calm down when they have a strong feeling. Peace areas help normalize strong feelings and give students a way to appropriately manage them. Peace paths give students the language to resolve peer conflicts without adults having to intervene. Session #72 - Hollywood vs. Science
In this class, we will discuss popular Marvel/DC movies and the real life scientific implications behind them in order to gain student interest in science. For instance, Conservation of Mass tells us that when Ant Man shrinks down to the size of an Ant, he'd still be 180 lbs, so he'd instantly squish any ant that he tries to ride. Also, since Pressure=Force/Area, he would sink into most surfaces since he is applying 180 lbs of force on the area of a pinpoint. Other fun discussion topics include the invisible girl would be blind because light is shining directly through her eyes, so her brain does not have any light to interpret an image.
